Living Doll Shoot

leave a comment »

So. What a week, eh?

I spent the entire week setting up my first real shoot. It was one of the most exciting things I’ve done in a really long time, and it was a blast on top of it! I figure the 3 days it took to set up would be dreadful, boring, and exhausting, but it was quite the contrary. I found myself engaged, excited, and enthusiastic about taping together 8 foot sheets of bubble wrap for a couple of hours and later destroying a chunk of my ceiling. No joke, I laughed inside at the ceiling when pieces of plaster and paint crumbled, snickering to myself, thinking that nothing could bring me down. This was, of course, after about five large cups of coffee loaded with sugar, double strength. I snickered away. That’s the word of the day. Snicker.

Thank you advertising, now I am suffering a severe chocolate craving.

Anyways, back to the shoot. So a girl I’ve known since I was in high school came over, and I painted, teased, and glued her for about two and a half hours. After that we went to lighting which took ages to adjust. I was having a good time, but by the time we were done with hair, makeup, costume, and lighting, the poor girl was famished! We decided that setting up was so much work we would break for spaghetti and get right back to it. When we got back to the set we were charged and ready to get it done.

The theme of the shoot was a living doll idea. She was to portray a fragile soul wrapped in plastic and surrounded by bubble wrap, hoping that one day she would be free and remembered. A blurb I wrote earlier about the photo sounded better, it was this:

“This was a shoot that I took some serious time planning out. I wanted the perfect model in the perfect dress with the perfect lighting, and what came out was a clutter of packaging wrapped around a living doll with hope, sadness, and a doll fixation gazing from two glimmering eyes. The idea of the piece it to convey a sense of claustrophobia, it is meant to be a doll under the weight of plastic and surrounded by a box of padded bubbles who wants to be remembered but fears that she is and will not be. A common fear, this doll if clinging to hope, but only by a single thread since all she sees are bubbles.”

Sooooo here is how it turned out! I hope you guys like. This was a very exciting day for us, and I still have another piece to finish editing this week as well. This was the first one done though, and I think she rocked that outfit. =D

Some Random New Additions to the Photo Collection

leave a comment »

Hi everyone! I thought that I would post a few pieces from my photo shop Jessalynn Vision since I haven’t been saying much lately. Just busting my buns as usual! Anywho, I’ll link these to my new shop, so if you have a second check them out!

So there’s a taste of some of my work, there’s plenty more on Etsy! Feel free to leave feedback, I’m always open to constructive criticism. =)

Time to go edit, then hopefully I’ll make it to my parents house to get a bit of heaven (aka spaghetti). =D

A Giveaway Like No Other!

with 28 comments

Hi everyone! So I’ve been busy busting my buns all week launching my new Etsy shop! I finally did it, I finally have a photography shop. Unfortunately it might mean that the hemp shop will get a little bit more neglected, but I’m only one person and the other shop is more ME. Since the moment I opened it I could feel it- the feeling of finally looking in the mirror with the ability to actually call myself a true artist. Making hair extensions and basic bracelets is absolutely wonderful, but it doesn’t match the pressure and excitement that my other shop is bringing me. It could just be the new shop jitters, but I think I’m in love. =)

So anyways, I decided to keep some things together and some things divided. For instance, this blog will now officially house info on my hemp shop and info on my new shop- Jessalynn Vision. I definitely can’t handle two blogs, so I hope that no one minds this giveaway. I will be hosting one featuring my new shop as of right…. now.

On to the good stuff. My new shop is called Jessalynn Vision and it is a photography/art print/art doll shop. It hasn’t even been up for a week, so expect the good stuff later. I might actually post the art doll today, come to think of it. ANYWAY- here’s the skinny:

If you win this giveaway, you will win (1) signed print of your choice from my shop.

Here’s whatcha gotta do….

MANDATORY: Go to my new shop (Jessalynn Vision) and pick out your favorite print. Come back here and leave me a comment explaining which print it is and why. (The “why” part is optional, but it would be quite helpful in determining my future prints, so I would really appreciate it!) 1 entry

Other ways to enter:

1) Go to Jessalynn Vision and leave me a shop heart. Be sure to post your Etsy username so that I can confirm it! 1 entry

2) Go to Jessalynn Vision Facebook page and “like” it. I would love it if you would leave me a note on the wall saying you did, but you don’t have to. Be sure to leave me a comment telling me you liked it. 1 entry

3) Follow me on Twitter! (I use the same Twitter account for both shops right now) 1 entry

4) Blog about my shop and this giveaway! This one is a big one, I would really appreciate the help since this shop is brand new. Be sure to leave four separate comments so that you will get four entries. Your first comment can be like “Blah blah blah, I blogged! Here it is!” and your second comment can be “I love bacon!” and your third can be “PssshhhhhhHHHAWWWW!!!!” ect. Haha, it doesn’t really matter so long as your email or Etsy username is there. I just want to make sure that you get the entries. 4 entries

5) Go to Jessalynn Vision and scroll down the left side of the page until you find the “like” button. Click it to share my work on your Facebook! I would really appreciate this one as well guys =D Be sure to leave a comment telling me you did. 2 entries

6) Buy something from my shop!! I really need the feedback, so this one is worth a bunch of entries. Be sure to leave me a comment to tell me you did. (BTW- Facebook fans get 10% off, check my wall for details). Oh, and leave five separate comments about it, please. 5 entries

7) Add me to your Etsy circle! Please leave an Etsy username so that I can double check. =) 1 entry

8 ) Tweet this! Be sure to leave your info! 1 entry

9) Subscribe to my blog! this one is worth a bunch as well, I could use some subscribers! Just look at the right side of the page and enter your email where it says to subscribe. More subscribers = more posts =) Be sure to leave 3 comments for this one. 3 entries

Look at that! So many ways to enter and most take minimal effort, my favorite kind! Please enter by October 16, 2011 at midnight Mountain Time. A winner will be announced right after that!

DON”T FORGET- To have a valid entry, you MUST leave your email address or your Etsy username on each comment. Without those things I won’t be able to contact you, and it will make me a very sad panda. If I hear nothing back from the winner within 72 hours, a new winner will be announced. Thank you!

Oh, Sweet Perversion, How We Love You…

leave a comment »

There is a definite upside to taking a break from blogging- when I get back to it, there are some RIDICULOUSLY funny new things to be taken in since Etsy is a freaking massive crafting supernova. I may have taken a break, but I am still just as addicted to this Etsy smoke as ever, and today I’m sharing something that will make you die a little while your insides explode due to laughter pressure. Today, we’re going into Sweet Perversion. Yay!

Here is what we’re going to kick things off with since it’s almost that time of year again…

Ahhhh, now don’t these hit the spot? I can’t get enough of this great seller and her simple, sleek, and clever creations. I’m tempted to buy the Santa cards for everyone on my Christmas card list this year. I don’t actually have a Christmas card list, but her eerie portrayal of that jolly man in red made me want one really bad. These are the kinds of cards you want to share, so thank you Sweet Perversion.

Do give her some love with shop hearts, she earned it.

Be sure to share the hearts with all of these magnificent artists!

Angelic Aspirations Is On The Menu Today

leave a comment »

I don’t know about you guys, but I have a magnet problem. It’s gotten to the point that it’s difficult to see alot of white space when you look at my fridge, and it isn’t because of the tiny papers hanging from the magnets. No, I don’t hang stuff on the fridge because I will inevitably plaster it with spaghetti sauce or some other equally messy substance while attempting to feed myself. And that looks icky. No, I just have a fridge full of unsatisfied magnets cluttered together waiting for use that will probably never really happen. With that being said, today I want to share with you a cute little magnet and card shop I stumbled across that would make a great feature for today- Angelic Aspirations. Check them out and show some love, I bet you’ll find something that will make you laugh!

Enjoy, and thanks for the laughs Angelic Aspirations! =)

Pretty Thingz By Jennifer

I just finished a trade with this really nice seller, and I wanted to give her a little mention on here. I can’t resist adorable things, it’s one of my biggest weaknesses, so I’m pretty excited to receive the items fromon Etsy. I would highly recommend doing business with this kind Etsian. Here are a few of her available items, including a really cool corset top that I’ve been eyeballing:

The next item is something that makes me wish I wore contacts. Or that maybe my boyfriend would suddenly get kawaii on me so that I could proudly display this case on the bathroom counter instead of his ugly teal and white things. This is a kawaii contact lens case, and I’ve never seen a seller decorate one of these is this way! I thought it was such a great idea that it motivated me to do this feature. I always love to give kudos to unique sellers out there:

Be sure to drop by her shop, there’s a ton more cute to gaze at. There are also more contact cases ;)

Wanderlust Designs is AWESOME

leave a comment »

Yesterday I said that I was back and I mean it, so lets kick off these features with a bit of Wanderlust. Wanderlust… that is a disturbingly fun word to say, I am extremely jealous of this seller’s shop name. Anyways, this shop features alot of great photography and the artist behind the computer monitor is a really sweet person. I just did a trade with this seller in fact, so I can tell you first hand that the print quality is outstanding and the shipping is quite quick. This person has a real eye for photography, and I don’t just mean taking 35 shots of the same pretty lake, I mean photography that makes a person smile. I have been dabbling in photography since I was 14 years old and humor photography has got to be the hardest thing to shoot. It’s easy to make a shot look emo and dramatic, it’s easy to strip the color away and add a little sepia to make the shot look rustic, but it is not easy to make people laugh. This is another shop I applaud because these signs are just awesome! And there is much more in stock than just signs, they have a well rounded collection of beautiful art at great prices. Check it out:

Although I must throw in the fact that the moment my boyfriend saw the last photo, he was obsessed with the idea of moving to Scotland where it was shot. Now, I’m more of a rum girl myself when I drink liquor, so I’m not sure how I feel about this, ha!
